Opticianry Program  

General Information 

Introduction to Optometry: The aim of the optician program is to train intermediate staff to work in the field of opticians. Opticians can work in any field related to glasses and opticians.  

Purpose of the Program: The purpose of the optician program is to train the main staff who will work in the field of opticians.  

Main Courses Taught in the Program: In the opticianry program, courses such as physics, chemistry, visual optics, use of optical instruments, eye anatomy and physiology, eye diseases, behavioral sciences and computers are taught and internships are provided. 

Required Qualifications: Those who want to study in the opticianry program must be interested in basic sciences and be successful, careful and responsible in this field.  

Titles Earned by Graduates and What They Do: Those who complete the optician program are given the title of "Optician". Opticians use optical tools and equipment to eliminate or alleviate an anatomical or physiological disorder in people's visual organs. For this purpose, they make glasses according to the prescriptions of patients diagnosed by an ophthalmologist.  

Fields of Work: Opticians work in businesses that make and sell eyeglasses.  

History: With the letter numbered 75850160-101.03.01-E.70396 dated 20.10.2017 of the Council of Higher Education, the Opticianry Program affiliated to the Department of Medical Services and Techniques was opened. The proposal to enroll students in the Opticianry Program was approved by YÖK in 2018 and education began with 40 students in the 2018-2019 academic year. In addition, the Opticianry (Evening Education) Program was opened in 2019 and has begun enrolling students.

Course Catalog 

Double Major / Minor Programs 

Double Major Program: Allows students to earn a bachelor's degree in a field they are interested in, in addition to their primary field. In this program, students can complete courses in two different fields and earn a diploma in both fields. 

Minor Program: Allows students to take a certain number of courses in a field they are interested in, outside of their major. Students who complete the minor program are given an official certificate in that field; however, this does not mean a second undergraduate degree.

Exchange Programs   

It offers students the opportunity to study at another university, either domestically or abroad, for a certain period of time. Thanks to these programs, students have the opportunity to learn about different cultures, develop their foreign language skills and gain international academic experience. The most common exchange programs include programs such as Erasmus+, Mevlana and Farabi.
